Booking software for Supper clubs

The Sunday brunch opens twenty covers and not one more, the set menu gets shopped for against the numbers, and paying online removes the phantom booking.

The challenges facing supper clubs

  • Twenty covers, not one more

The capacity is not commercial: it comes from the table, the kitchen and often the rules. One cover too many and the whole service suffers.

  • The set menu gets shopped for against the numbers

One menu for everyone, bought against the head count. The list has to close the day before, not on Sunday morning as you open the shutters.

  • Sunday morning phantom bookings

Free, they get cancelled without a thought. Paid online, they bring somebody — and Saturday's shopping matches what gets served.

  • Allergies and diets get declared beforehand

With one menu, an undeclared intolerance is a guest who does not eat. The question belongs at booking.

  • The Sunday service takes the whole house

It is not one slot among others: it is a morning of shopping, a kitchen, a service and a clear-down. It gets blocked entire.

Practical guide: Supper clubs

  1. The service capacity set by the real number of covers, table included.
  2. A minimum notice before booking, set to the evening before: the shopping happens against a closed list.
  3. Payment at booking. On a set menu bought in advance, it is the only real protection.
  4. A required "allergies and diets" field. With one menu there is no plan B at service.
  5. The service booked as something that occupies the whole morning, shopping and clear-down included.
  6. A reminder the day before with the exact time and the address. A supper club has no sign at the roadside.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a supper club meal cost in the UK?

Around £35 to £70 per person for a full menu, and £25 to £45 for a brunch or a simpler format. Set your own prices.

What is the difference between a supper club and a restaurant in the UK?

Less than people hope, and it is worth facing. Serving food to the public regularly for payment makes you a food business, and cooking at home does not change that: you must register with your local authority at least 28 days before you start, free and unrefusable, and failing to register is an offence. Your domestic kitchen will then be inspected and given a Food Hygiene Rating like any other. You need HACCP-based procedures, food hygiene training, allergen information for the fourteen named allergens, and public liability insurance. Serving alcohol requires a premises licence or a Temporary Event Notice for occasional dates. Check too your lease or mortgage terms, your home insurance, and whether the use amounts to a material change requiring planning permission — councils vary, and it is the question they ask first.
