The challenges facing videographers
A filming day blocks a whole day
It is not a slot, it is your day. One cancellation is a week's earnings.
The recce comes before everything else
A short appointment, often on site, to be found between two shoots.
Dates get booked months ahead
Weddings, corporate events: the horizon is a year, not three months.
The quote gets lost in the email thread
Your availability, theirs, a price that changes with the options. Five exchanges for one date.

Practical guide: Videographers
- A "filming day" service that takes the whole day and closes everything else.
- The recce as a short, free service: it books on its own and it brings the quote.
- Open the horizon to a year on event work.
- A thirty per cent deposit at booking, with a written refund scale.
- Travel charges by area: the question stops being renegotiated on every project.
Frequently asked questions
Can I block a whole day?
Yes, with a duration that covers travel and packing down.
Can I ask for a deposit?
Yes, with the terms shown before payment.
How do I handle recces?
As a short free service, bookable on its own.
Can I charge for travel?
Yes, by area, shown before confirmation.
Do I need music rights for a wedding film?
Yes, and it is the most common mistake in the trade. A wedding or corporate film is a synchronisation of music to picture: it needs a sync licence from the publisher and a master use licence from the label, negotiated directly. No blanket collective licence covers it, and delivering a film to a client counts even if it never goes online — putting it on YouTube adds a further layer, where Content ID will find it. In practice videographers work from production music libraries whose licence expressly covers client delivery. Separately, if you fly a drone for reward you must register as an operator with the Civil Aviation Authority, hold a flyer ID, and respect the distance and airspace rules.
