What safety rules apply to an indoor play centre?
There is no licensing regime, so the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and the equipment standards do the work. Indoor play equipment is designed and inspected to BS EN 1176 and BS EN 1177, with daily visual checks, periodic operational inspections and an annual inspection by an independent competent person, all recorded. You need a written risk assessment, a stated maximum occupancy with supervision ratios, an accident book and first aiders, a fire risk assessment under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, and food business registration for the café. One point about waivers: a parental disclaimer cannot exclude your liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence — the Unfair Contract Terms Act 1977 makes that void.
