What are the legal obligations for psychic services in the UK?

The law changed in a way many practitioners have not caught up with. The Fraudulent Mediums Act 1951 was repealed in 2008 and replaced by the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008, which prohibit misleading actions and omissions and aggressive practices in dealings with consumers — enforced by Trading Standards, with criminal penalties. The practical consequence is that the burden shifted from proving fraudulent intent to ordinary consumer fairness: prices, durations and cancellation terms must be clear before payment, and pressure selling is unlawful. Industry practice, and what regulators expect, is a visible statement that readings are for entertainment. Do not offer medical, legal or financial advice, and be especially careful with vulnerable clients.
