What accreditation does a UK language school need?
Nothing is compulsory to teach a language to adults paying privately. Two frameworks nonetheless govern the market. British Council accreditation, run with English UK, inspects teaching, welfare, management and premises, and is what agents, embassies and most corporate buyers require before sending students — unaccredited schools are largely shut out of the international market. And if you enrol students who need immigration permission to study, you must hold a Student sponsor licence from the Home Office, with a Basic Compliance Assessment, attendance monitoring and reporting duties; sponsoring without a licence is not possible, and losing one closes that business overnight. Add safeguarding and enhanced DBS checks if you teach under-18s, and accommodation vetting if you place them with host families.
