Booking software for Dry cleaners and alteration shops

A wedding dress needs three fittings timed to the wedding date, an express hem does not block the shop like a fitting, and collection gets notified when it is ready.

The challenges facing dry cleaners and alteration shops

  • A wedding dress needs three fittings timed to a date

The last one happens eight to fifteen days before the wedding, not whenever there is room. The whole series gets booked backwards, from the date.

  • A ten-minute fitting and an express hem do not block the same way

One occupies the fitting room and a seamstress, the other the machine. On the same slots, one prevents the other.

  • The customer comes for nothing

They collect a garment that is not ready, or they never collect the one that has been ready for three weeks. A message when it is ready solves both.

  • The counter is busy when the phone rings

A fitting in the room, a customer dropping off, and the phone. What books itself online interrupts nobody.

  • The fitting room is a resource, not an intention

One room, one fitting at a time. Two appointments accepted at the same hour and somebody waits in their coat.

Practical guide: Dry cleaners and alteration shops

  1. The three fittings for a dress booked at the first one, working back from the wedding date.
  2. One service per type: fitting, express hem, complex alteration, drop-off. Four durations, four ways of occupying the workroom.
  3. The fitting room declared as a resource: one fitting at a time.
  4. An automatic message when the garment is ready. That is what empties the rails.
  5. A "garment type, alteration wanted, deadline" field at booking.
  6. A reminder the night before fittings, telling them to bring the shoes they will wear.

Frequently asked questions

How much does an alteration cost in the UK?

Around £12 to £25 for a hem, £20 to £45 to take in a jacket, and £150 to £450 for a wedding dress alteration over several fittings. Set your own prices.

What rules apply to dry cleaning machines in the UK?

Solvent, and it is a permitting matter rather than a trading one. Dry cleaning using perchloroethylene is a Part B installation under the Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2016: you need a permit from your local authority, which sets solvent consumption limits, machine standards, leak testing, record keeping and an annual solvent mass balance, and inspects you. Operating without a permit is an offence. Perc is also a hazardous substance under COSHH with a workplace exposure limit, waste solvent and still residues are hazardous waste requiring a registered carrier and consignment notes, and machines must be maintained to prevent emissions. Alternative solvents may fall outside the permitting threshold — check with your council before changing.

Can I book three fittings back from the wedding date?

Yes, by placing the dates from the last one backwards.

Can I have different durations by alteration?

Yes, each service carries its own.

How do I tell a customer their garment is ready?

With an automatic message when you mark it ready.

How do I avoid two fittings at the same hour?

By declaring the fitting room as a resource.
