Do I need anything to put my pupils in a show?
Very possibly, and it is the obligation most independent dance teachers miss. Under the Children (Performances and Activities) (England) Regulations 2014 and the Children and Young Persons Act 1963, a child of compulsory school age taking part in a performance for which a charge is made, or which takes place on licensed premises, generally needs a performance licence from the local authority where the child lives, applied for at least 21 days in advance, with a chaperone approved by the authority and limits on hours. A Body of Persons Approval can cover an organisation running its own shows. Separately, teaching children is regulated activity: enhanced DBS checks, a safeguarding policy and a designated officer are expected, and the venue will ask for them.
