What rules apply to a private spa suite in the UK?
Water treatment is the heart of it, and there is one document everybody works to: the HSE's HSG282, on the control of legionella and other infectious agents in spa pools, read alongside the approved code of practice L8. It sets out disinfection, testing frequency, records, filtration and the turnaround regime — and it is what an environmental health officer will ask to see, because outbreaks traced to hot tubs are why the guidance exists. The Pool Water Treatment Advisory Group publishes the technical standard alongside it. Add a written risk assessment under the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, registration of the premises with the council, and public liability insurance. If you serve alcohol, you need a premises licence under the Licensing Act 2003 — including for the complimentary glass of prosecco.
