The challenges facing tanning salons
Very short slots, in very large numbers
Ten minutes a session, morning to night. One badly placed gap costs a whole session.
Ten-session cards tracked by hand
The client knows how many are left, you do not. The conversation always ends in your disfavour.
The booth that has not cooled down
There has to be time between two users, and the diary does not allow for it until you tell it to.
The March-to-June peak
Three months when everybody comes, nine when the booths run empty.

Practical guide: Tanning salons
- Declare each booth as a resource: the client books a slot, not an intention.
- Five minutes of buffer between sessions, for cleaning and cool-down.
- Sell session cards online: the balance tracks itself on the client record.
- A promo code on the 11am to 3pm slots fills the middle of the day, which is your structural hole.
- Open booking from February: the season gets prepared before it starts.
Frequently asked questions
Can I manage several booths?
Yes, each declared as a resource.
How do I track session cards?
They attach to the client record and the balance updates itself.
Can I take payment online?
Yes. It goes straight to your Stripe account, with no commission from Kagenda.
What about clients who walk in?
They carry on as before. Online booking sits alongside them.
What are the legal rules for sunbeds in the UK?
There is a specific statute, and it is strict. The Sunbeds (Regulation) Act 2010 makes it an offence in England and Wales to allow anyone under 18 to use a sunbed on your premises, and it must not be possible for an under-18 to be present in a restricted zone. Scotland goes further under the Public Health etc. (Scotland) Act 2008, which also prohibits unsupervised and coin-operated use and requires that information on health risks be given to every customer; Northern Ireland has its own equivalent. Local authorities enforce, and fines are real. Beyond the Act, the equipment standard limiting effective irradiance to 0.3 W/m², staff training and eye protection are what an inspection will look at.
