Booking software for Speech and language therapists
A course of therapy is one slot a week across a school year. Kagenda books it once, and reminds the parents the night before.

The challenges facing speech and language therapists
The school-year slot
Thirty-five sessions at the same time. Booking them one by one makes no sense, and losing them mid-year makes even less.
School holidays
You have to close, then reopen, without breaking each patient's recurrence.
It is the parents who manage the appointment
Not the patient. The reminder has to go to the right person, on the right number.
The initial assessment is nothing like a session
An hour and a half against thirty minutes, and usually a report to write afterwards.

Practical guide: Speech and language therapists
- Set the recurrence across the school year, then close the holidays in one go.
- Put the parent's number on the record: that is where the reminder goes.
- The assessment as a separate service, with buffer time behind it to write the report.
- Keep online booking closed and work from the diary: in this profession the waiting list is managed by hand.
- A reminder the evening before to parents halves the Wednesday forgettings.
Frequently asked questions
Can I book a weekly slot across the whole year?
Yes, with recurring bookings and holidays removed in one go.
Does the reminder go to the parent or the patient?
To whichever contact is on the record — the parent's number, with the child's name in the message.
Can I turn online booking off?
Yes. The diary works on its own, and you enter appointments yourself.
Does Kagenda hold clinical records?
No. It is a diary.
What do you need to practise as a speech and language therapist in the UK?
Statutory registration. "Speech and language therapist" and "speech therapist" are protected titles: you must be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council, and using either without registration is a criminal offence. Registration requires an approved degree, CPD and compliance with the HCPC standards; the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists provides professional guidance and, for members, indemnity. Two practical points for independent practice: an enhanced DBS check is required for work with children, and if you work in schools you will be asked for it alongside evidence of insurance and a data sharing agreement with the setting.
