The challenges facing podiatrists
Routine care comes round every two months
That is your recurring work, and it rests entirely on the patient's memory.
A biomechanical assessment takes three times as long
An hour against twenty minutes. The same slot for both cannot work.
Collecting orthotics
A five-minute appointment badly placed that breaks a half-day.
Older patients who do not book online
Part of your list will always ring. Both channels have to hold in the same diary.

Practical guide: Podiatrists
- Offer the next appointment at the end of the treatment: at two months, it is the only way not to lose it.
- One service per activity, with its real duration: five minutes for a collection, an hour for an assessment.
- Keep manual booking for those who ring: both channels feed the same diary.
- Group orthotic collections into a dedicated window rather than scattering them.
- A reminder the night before: older patients forget most, and warn least.
Frequently asked questions
Can I enter appointments taken by phone?
Yes. Both channels feed the same diary.
How do I manage care that comes round every two months?
By booking the next appointment at the end of each one, on recurrence.
Can I have very different durations?
Yes, each service carries its own.
Does Kagenda hold patient records?
No. It is a diary.
Are "podiatrist" and "chiropodist" protected titles in the UK?
Yes, both are, and there is a distinction worth stating on your page. "Podiatrist" and "chiropodist" are protected by law and restricted to those registered with the Health and Care Professions Council; using either without registration is a criminal offence. "Foot health practitioner" is not protected: someone with a shorter private qualification may practise routine foot care under that description, but may not call themselves a podiatrist or chiropodist, and their scope is narrower. HCPC registrants may hold annotations for local anaesthesia and prescribing rights. Patients and referrers read the title as a qualification statement, so use the one you are entitled to and no other.
