Booking software for Motorcycle training schools

An off-road lesson means a bike, an instructor and the training area: all three get booked together, and the block of hours gets used without a notebook.

The challenges facing motorcycle training schools

  • A lesson takes three resources at once

A bike, an instructor and the training area. If one of the three is missing the lesson does not exist — and a schedule that only follows the instructor produces pupils who arrive for nothing.

  • The block of hours gets used lesson by lesson

Over several months. Tracked on a card, it always ends up being argued about, and it is the school that loses.

  • The weather postpones the practical, not the theory

A wet morning cancels six lessons. Telling six pupils one by one the night before is an hour on the phone.

  • Pupils are only free at the end of the day

From 5pm to 7pm everything is saturated, and the 10am slots run empty. Without a lever, demand does not move.

Practical guide: Motorcycle training schools

  1. Declare the bikes as resources: a lesson only books if the machine is free, not just the instructor.
  2. The block of hours tracked on the pupil's record, with its history: no more discussion at the fifteenth hour.
  3. If you have to postpone, cancel the lessons from the diary: every pupil gets their email at once.
  4. A promo code on the 10am to 3pm slots moves part of the evening pressure.
  5. Two separate services, off-road module and on-road module: they share neither duration nor resources.
  6. A reminder the day before: on hour-long lessons bought in advance, a forgetting costs an instructor hour.

Frequently asked questions

How much does motorcycle training cost in the UK?

Around £120 to £220 for Compulsory Basic Training, £600 to £1,000 for a Direct Access course including bike hire and test fees, and £60 to £120 an hour for additional training. DVSA test fees are set by the Government and are separate. Set your own prices.

What approval does a UK motorcycle training school need?

Approval by the DVSA, and it is specific. Compulsory Basic Training may only be delivered by an Approved Training Body, with a nominated Down Trained Instructor, instructors assessed and certified in the categories they teach, and a training site inspected and approved by the DVSA for off-road manoeuvres — delivering CBT without ATB status is an offence, and sites are audited. Direct Access training for larger machines requires instructors certified for it. Training machines must meet the DVSA specifications for each category and be insured for tuition. Add public liability insurance, protective equipment provision, and a written policy on eyesight and licence checks before a pupil rides.

Can I book a bike at the same time as the instructor?

Yes, by declaring each machine as a resource.

How do I track a block of twenty hours?

It attaches to the pupil's record and the balance updates itself.

How do I cancel lessons because of weather?

From the diary. Every pupil that day gets their message.
