Do I need a DBS check to tutor in the UK?
Tutoring is unregulated: no licence, no qualification, no register. On DBS the position surprises almost everyone. A self-employed tutor cannot apply for their own enhanced DBS check — the law requires an eligible organisation to countersign the application, so an individual working directly for families must go through an umbrella body, a tutoring agency or an organisation that can request it.
